A successful design must include careful consideration of every element in the entire space

This absolutely includes the flooring and wall surfaces. With the rise of open-concept layouts, flooring selections can be an incredibly important surface providing the base that ties everything together. That’s a lot of pressure! Don’t worry, the experts at Village Home Stores are ready to help you find the perfect material for your space and your budget. Neutral tones are always a great choice no matter what style of space you are creating. In this Bettendorf, Iowa home we included our Dream Weaver carpeting from the Metropolitan series in the “Iron Frost” color. This carpet provides the color and comfort needed for the home’s bedroom, stairs, and closet floor surfaces. Make sure you are investing in quality flooring surfaces when you are building a home. You want carpeting that will stand the test of time. It needs to look and feel great for many years to come. Ask a flooring expert at Village about what sets Dream Weaver apart from other carpeting lines.

Of course we didn’t carpet the entire place. The main flooring surface you will fall in love with when visiting this home are the engineered wood floors in the entry, kitchen, dining, living room, mudroom, laundry, and hallways. This 7″ wide surface is from our Canoe Bay Key West line. The color is called “White Street” and it provides an gorgeous blend of lighter woodtones.

Light wood flooring is a major trend within the Modern Farmhouse, Scandinavian, MidCentury Modern, and Minimalist styles so popular right now. For the blend of wood furnishings and decor in this home it is absolutely perfect. The White Oak planks are softened in some areas with neutral area rugs. Did you know that Village Home Stores can custom cut and bind area rugs from any carpets here at the store!? Just give our flooring experts a call and we can quote your a price.

Every well-designed space needs some element of fun! In this great room it is the tile surface selected for the fireplace surround. This tile is from the Glazzio Picassa Series in the “Paloma Taupe” color. This pattern is neutral in color but almost has a quilt-like pattern in the mosaic. We repeated this same tile as an accent area above the kitchen cooktop across the great room.

If this pattern isn’t your thing, don’t worry! With this series of tile we can get the same color combination in a number of other patterns. In this Bettendorf living room, a rustic barnwood beam caps off the tiled surround for a mantle. We kept a clean look surrounding the tile edges with a bronze-finished metal end cap piece. These channeled tile trim pieces called “Schluter strips” help to cap off cut edges of tile and keep a contained and clean look.

We also used Schluter edging around the hearth area corners and edges. They come in a variety of finish color options. Here we keep a contrasting finish and the look makes a fun bold statement. The hearth area at the base of the fireplace is an elongated 3″ x 12″ “New Yorker” tile in a “Bright White” finish.

We repeated the same “New Yorker” tile as the main kitchen backsplash surface. If you find yourself drawn to spaces with white subway tiles surfaces ask about elongated tile options. Longer tiles in a subtle and classic shape, this option can help draw the look of a space out and seem larger.

For the tiled shower in the Master Bath we used an elongated white tile again but varied the texture and size a bit. Here we used a 4″ x 20″ tile from the “Ascot Brickwall” series in a “Matte White” color. Using a matte finished tile here helps to soften the space and help draw attention to the accent tile band around the center. 8″ x 24″ deco tiles from American Olean’s “Visual Impression” series are a Linear Diamond “Beige” color. As an added detail, we also used a warm gray grout color here to help showcase the wall tile shapes.
